My Professional Synopsis

Education

I obtained my undergraduate medical degree (MD) with honors from Romania. After working for five years overseas, I came to New Zealand and undertook five years of training in General Surgery with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) which I completed in 2014. In the years 2017/2018, I undertook 2 years’ post-fellowship (sub-specialist) training (PFT) in “Breast Oncoplasty and Endocrine Surgery” with The Breast Society of Australia and New Zealand (BreastSurg ANZ).

Achievements

Academic: FRACS in general surgery awarded by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Full member of the breast Society of Australia and New Zealand. GESA certification

Non-academic: Best cyclist of high school for 2 years, Captain of Tug-of-war in high school.

Experienece

After FRACS, I worked as a general surgeon for 2 years: first year in NZ in 2015, and second-year i.e. in year 2016 I was a staff specialist in Bundaberg hospital in Queensland. During these two years, I had a very broad general surgical practice and managed a wide variety of acute as well as elective surgical conditions. In 2017 I undertook first year of subspecialist training in Breast Oncoplastic and Endocrine Surgery in Calvary and Canberra hospitals, and for 2nd year (2018) I was appointed in Nepean Public hospital in Sydney. During these two years, I gained extensive experience in managing benign and malignant breast conditions with the use of level 1 and level 2 oncoplastic techniques: Implant and flap-based breast reconstructions/augmentations as well as breast reductions. I was also trained to perfrom thyroidectomies, minimally invasive parathyroidectomies and adrenalectomies. I have also been independently performing colonoscopies and gastroscopies on adults for over 7 years.
